Plant Maintenance |
This section of my web page deals with the fundamental concepts of railway electrification and plant. Electrification supplies electric power to trains, and can be split into two areas; power transmission, and power distribution. Power transmission consists of two areas; overhead line and third rail. Power distribution consists of electrical feeder stations and switching gear. Plant equipment is used on the UK railways for various things, and is mostly used to back up a more primary engineering discipline. For example, switch heating to back up track systems, generators to back up signals and lighting systems used in electrical distribution sites.
